Production Start-up

MOTIVATION

A supplier to a leading German car manufacturer needed to prepare and implement a logistics concept for a new production project at its plant in Pilsen. The big challenge was to integrate the project into existing production, and therefore we had to deal with capacity issues and lack of space during the planning.

SOLUTION

The solution had to be very comprehensive, covering the entire internal logistics – from material receipt to dispatch. In addition to the preparation of the new logistics concept, the implementation of the transition concept and the preparation of the internal logistics for the “Start of Production” was an integral part of the project. This entailed, among other things, other necessities, such as the preparation of a new layout and the setting up of new processes, including changes in the information systems.

CONCLUSION

In such complex projects where we have to work with several possible scenarios, we take the dynamic simulation tool to hand. We refer to this tool as our “digital sandbox” and it allows us to select the most suitable option, plan the optimal production batches, verify machine utilization, determine the size of the work in progress and also determine the size of the packaging account. This ensures that our customer has sufficient logistical capacity and resources in place to enable a smooth ramp-up of mass production.
