Cost transparency across carriers

Logio analyzed historical collections and transport mileage to map real carrier costs for Elektrowin.

Outcome

The model isolated cost components, including tolls, and revealed their real impact on total transport costs.

About Elektrowin

Elektrowin is the Czech Republic’s largest collective system for the take‑back and recycling of electrical and electronic equipment. Established in 2005 and based in Prague, it operates a nationwide network of public and non‑public collection points in cooperation with municipalities, retailers, schools, and other partners. In 2024, Elektrowin reported a record year in collected e‑waste.

Founded in 2005

~12,000 collection points

78,115 tonnes collected in 2024

Initial challenge

Carrier rates were rising. Elektrowin needed to verify the real costs of contractual carriers by completed collections and mileage, and to confirm the actual effect of tolls on total carrier costs.

Project goal

Build a distribution simulation and cost breakdown to identify expected savings per carrier, support peer‑to‑peer comparisons, and provide a solid basis for price negotiations.

Solution

Fact‑based carrier cost and network simulation

We consolidated historical collection and mileage data, built a distribution simulation, and quantified cost drivers, including tolls, to verify real carrier costs and identify expected savings by carrier. The model enabled peer‑to‑peer comparisons and supported price negotiations.

01

Data consolidation

Collected historical records of realized collections, routes, mileage, tolls, and contracted rates across carriers.

02

Cost model build

Calculated real cost per carrier and route. Separated cost components, including tolls, to confirm their contribution to total transport costs.

03

Distribution simulation

Modeled alternative allocations and routes to estimate expected savings for each carrier.

04

Scenario stress tests

Included scenarios with exceptional closures of target e‑waste processors to test network resilience.

05

Benchmarking and comparisons

Created peer‑to‑peer benchmarks to compare carriers on consistent metrics.

06

Negotiation‑ready reporting

Delivered a report summarizing cost breakdowns, toll impact, expected savings by carrier, and comparisons to support price talks.

Impact

Cost transparency and negotiation power for reverse logistics

Verified toll impact (0.6% YoY)

Isolated tolls showed a marginal effect on total transport costs, preventing over‑indexing in negotiations.

Negotiation baseline

Comparable cost benchmarks by carrier enabled fact‑based price talks.

Savings scenarios

Expected savings per carrier identified through modeled route alternatives.

Cost transparency

Full breakdown by route and cost component improved decision quality.

Resilience testing

Simulated processor closures to maintain service continuity.
